Inter-Coastal Waterway

Looks like Iemanja is heading for the Virginia Cut tomorrow. Some say the Dismal Swamp is preferred for it's beauty like the Cyprus trees, but it looks to be maintained to a 6 ft depth. Iemanja draws over 6 ft; too close for any comfort.

We met Martin this evening from Sweden. He's a new boat owner and sailor for a total of 5 days. Nicest guy you could ever meet and his adventurous stories over a beer were fun. He even saved my Tilley hat for me when it fell into the Dead Creek. It would have been great to travel together down to Beaufort NC, but now we can only hope to meet up with him there. He'll take the Dismal Swamp route.

Leaving Hampton this morning-bright sunny morning :

Naval piers in Norfolk included such biggies as the USS Bataan wasp class assault ship, the USS Gettysburg a Ticondera class guided missile cruiser, the USS SanAntonio a super-carrier transport dock, and USS Eisenhower a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. The IKe had been in dry dock but came in about. 2 days ago back to Norfolk so we're guessing she'd been out for sea trials.

The Eisenhower:

Our route today :

got us down to the break-off point for going to Dismal route versus going the Virginia route.
