A 7 loon morning

Some mornings are loon mornings and others just aren't. Ours was a 7 loon morning. Not all at one time nor all in one place but 7 is a lot of loons. Maybe they were enjoying the morning fog as much as we were.  Kingsland Bay fog:

They were Big, with white on the chest and throat. Looking at Sibley's, these might have been juveniles. Great to see them.

We had a leisurely 9 hour ride down to Lock 12. There's an old closed marina before the lock with a good 11 ft of water at the dock. Good place for the night and out of the channel.

The channel is a beautiful place with rock faces on one side and tall sand-flat grasses on the other. Herons seemed drawn to the grasses. Interesting to see places we anchored in 2007 when we brought the boat up from Northport NY. One in particular had been developed and showed a lot of mid October activity.

Minnie, the boat's admiral ( admiralette) had to supervise Ernie firing up the chart plotter. Had to make sure he did it right. Chart plotter in cockpit and auto-pilot are really making the trip easier.
Job well done:

Had never been to the new Crown Pt bridge before today. We missed out on the southern Cruise Trip that many LCYC'ers took earlier this summer. I know nothing about the functionality of the bridge for cars, bicyclists, and ped's but it sure is lovely.

Tomorrow is a lock day. Looking forward to it.
